Caribbean Multihull Challenge 2021 - Caribbean Multihulls sponsors the event for the third consecutive year
When the Sint Maarten Yacht Club launched the Caribbean Multihull Challenge for the first time in 2019, Caribbean Multihulls immediately decided to sponsor the CMC event.
Despite difficult conditions this year, the Sint Maarten Yacht Club is carrying on with the event and is busy organizing the third CMC. We are more than ever honoured to support their dedication through our sponsorship of the 2021 Caribbean Multihull Challenge.
Sint Maarten Yacht Club prepares for Caribbean Multihull Challenge III
Stephen Burzon, Chair of the Caribbean Multihull Challenge Steering Committee, announces that despite the uncertainty surrounding tourism and yachting in the Caribbean for the 2021 season, planning for the third annual CMC is well under way.
Working with founding committee members Petro Jonkers and Robbie Ferron, key decisions have been made about site, format, and health protocols.
For the 2021 event set for Sint Maarten on the 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th of February, all on shore activity will take place at the Yacht Club offering the opportunity for social distancing utilizing the clubhouse bar and restaurant, the sailing school decks, the parking lot, and the docks extending into the water.
Petro Jonkers as head of operations for the event has secured even more social distancing space by bringing in a new sponsor – Explorer Tours - who will dock their large double deck sightseeing boat alongside the SMYC’s main dock.
As in the past berthing for competitors is available at special rates just across the Lagoon at Yacht Club Port De Plaisance.
CMC Sailing Committee chair Robbie Ferron and Garth Steyn – SMYC Commodore - are working with the appropriate government agencies to design protocols that will allow all to be safe as well as to encourage and facilitate foreign flag multihulls to register to race, enter Sint Maarten, and conveniently berth in the Lagoon or in Simpson Bay.
Taking full advantage of the unusually large number of multihulls now in the Caribbean, as well as the new one-day Caribbean Multihull 60 Mile Sprint open to very fast multihulls, the CMC is pushing to increase the number of entries beyond the record 20 boats entered in the 2020 event. Ongoing advertising is encouraging entries.
