Hey fellow sailors,
If you're like me, always on the lookout for reliable gear and services for your boat, then you might appreciate this little find: South East Asia Sails (SEA Sailmakers). They’ve been doing great work, especially for those of us who spend a lot of time at sea.
Custom sails for serious cruisers
What stood out to me about SEA Sailmakers is that they combine traditional sailmaking techniques with modern technology. They use advanced design software to create custom sails tailored to your specific needs, whether you're cruising, racing, or somewhere in between. That blend of old-school know-how with modern tech gives their sails a nice balance of durability and performance.
They're also great about using materials that can handle the wear and tear of long-term sailing. For example, they often use high-tenacity polyester (Dacron), which is known for being UV-resistant and durable enough to deal with a lot of wind and sun exposure without losing its shape.
SEA Sailmakers have built a reputation for their custom sails, and they work with a variety of boats, from small yachts to bigger cats like Fountaine Pajot models. They take the time to get the details right, asking all the right questions about your boat and how you sail.
More than just sails: trampolines and canvas work
If you’re a catamaran owner, they also make custom trampolines. These are built tough, using UV-resistant materials that are designed to handle the constant exposure to the elements. That’s a good thing, especially when you’re spending a lot of time lounging on the nets during those calm days.
They also offer canvas work, from biminis and sail covers to awnings, so they’re a solid option if you're looking to protect your boat and keep things tidy.
Sister company for upholstery
As a bonus, SEA Sailmakers has a sister company, SEAM Upholstery, located next door to SEA Sails in Phuket, Thailand. that handles marine upholstery. I haven't personally worked with them yet, but if you’re in the market for new cushions or interior refits, it could be worth checking out.
Fair winds!
Peter
